The secret of the comfort lies in the construction of the lining and the uppers. To ensure the closest possible fit, the shoes feature a 4-way stretch collar constructed from Neoprene and Lycra, which is highly flexible and provides cushioning and support on demand. As the shoes are put through the paces, the lining continues to provide the same level of support, even on highly uneven surfaces when the shoes are put under immense strain. When other shoes distort under the forces of movement, Merrell retain their shape, with the lining wrapping around the foot like a wetsuit, keeping the feet breathing and perfectly dry.



The fabric uppers are lightweight, and wrap around the lining for a secure fit, pulled in close to the foot by Merrells innovative lacing system. The laces connect to reinforced fabric fingers, which pull from the base of the shoe to help wrap around the foot and relieve pressure on the top of the foot. At the rear of the shoe, the laces pull in two instep stability arms for extra support on difficult terrain. The shoes feature a wide toe box to allow the toes to move freely, whilst the heel is restricted and immovable due to the EVA compression moulded foot frame. A late and heavy heel strike has the force absorbed by a Merrell Air Cushion, with the heel sinking into the soft and supportive EVA footbed for a highly cushioned ride. The shoes are finished off with a Vibram sticky rubber outsole with a custom designed tread pattern to maximise speed over earth, grass, gravel, hard packed trails and concrete.
